The Content and Data Analytics team forms part of the DataOps division within Global Operations. DataOps is the backbone of Elsevier’s research data infrastructure, and our team plays a vital role in transforming data into actionable insights.
We provide data analysis services primarily using Databricks and collaborate closely with product owners and data scientists working on Elsevier’s Research Data Platform. Our work contributes directly to the development of world-class data analytics products such as Scopus and SciVal, which empower the global scientific community.
About the Role
As a Data Analyst II, you will play a key role in supporting our DataOps division by analysing, refining, and presenting data that informs strategic decisions. You will have a solid understanding of analytical best practices and execute projects with guidance from senior team members.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys exploring data, solving complex problems, and uncovering patterns that help improve products and processes. You will work across various data domains, collaborating with data scientists and product owners to deliver meaningful insights.
Your contributions will help enhance Elsevier’s data-driven products and services used by millions of researchers worldwide.
Key Responsibilities

Support data scientists working within the Research Data Platform domains.

Dive into large datasets to answer questions raised by product owners or data scientists.

Conduct data preparation (dataprep) for hypothesis testing and prototype development.

Review the precision, recall, and performance of data science algorithms at scale.

Create and maintain dashboard metrics to monitor model performance.

Use analytical tools and techniques to generate data insights and actionable recommendations.

Present analytical findings through clear storytelling, both written and verbal.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and build strong stakeholder relationships.

Ensure data quality and maintain documentation for analytical processes.
Requirements
-
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in data analysis or related fields.

Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (preferably Python).

Experience with Pandas, Apache Spark, or Databricks for handling large-scale data.

Familiarity with regular expressions (regex) and string manipulation functions.

Strong understanding of basic statistics used in data science (precision, recall, F-score).

Knowledge of data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI is an advantage.

Experience working with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA.

Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
