Tesco is hiring a full-time, permanent Analyst – Data Analysis to join its elite Data Science & Analytics division in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. This entry-level position is perfectly designed for analytical minds with 1 to 2 years of experiencewho excel at exploring massive datasets and converting technical findings into clear stories for business leaders.

As a Data Analyst at Tesco, you will step out of basic reporting pipelines to take active ownership of end-to-end analytics delivery. You will work across diverse retail domains—such as supply chain, marketing, operations, merchandising, or digital—collaborating closely with global business partners. You will extract and manipulate huge data arrays across Hadoop and Teradata clusters, write clean, compute-efficient code, build self-service dashboards, and apply statistical checks to optimise daily retail operations.

Key Responsibilities & Data Analytics Workflows

  • Visual Storytelling & Dashboarding: Analyse complex datasets and build intuitive, self-service dashboards and reports using approved tools like Tableau or PyDash.

  • Stakeholder Consultation: Engage directly with market partners to translate open-ended business problems into structured analytical tasks, and then communicate the answers back clearly to decision-makers.

  • Large-Scale Data Manipulation: Extract, clean, and synthesise massive, multi-source datasets across distributed environments while maintaining strict data quality and integrity.

  • Process Automation: Identify repetitive operational tasks, manual report generation workflows, or dashboard refreshes, and design automated pipelines to save time.

  • Efficient Code Engineering: Write clean, well-documented, structured, and computationally efficient scripts, while contributing reusable modules to internal GitHub and Wiki knowledge stores.

  • Statistical Validation: Apply fundamental statistical concepts—including Correlation Analysis and Hypothesis Testing—to evaluate business trends and justify operational changes.

  • Continuous Improvement Execution: Apply Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and techniques to identify systemic retail bottlenecks, map workflows, and find smart operational solutions within agreed KPIs.

Candidate Prerequisites & Key Technical Skills

Successful candidates must combine technical skills in querying big data lakes with an analytical approach to solving retail business challenges.

Required Experience & Educational Baseline:

  • Professional Tenure: 1 to 2 Years of experience in analytics delivery is highly preferred.

  • Domain Familiarity: Prior exposure in domains like Retail, CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods), Telecom, or Hospitality across functional tracks (e.g., supply chain, marketing, operations, finance, merchandising, or digital) is a strong advantage.

  • Academic Credentials: Undergraduate Degree (Any Graduate) or Postgraduate Degree (Any Postgraduate).

Core Technical Stack Competencies:

  • Database Querying (SQL & Hive): Solid ability to write structured, efficient SQL scripts and query big data platforms using Hive.

  • Data Warehousing (Hadoop & Teradata): Foundational understanding of Big Data warehouse architectures, data lineage, and storage principles across Hadoop and Teradata clusters.

  • Business Intelligence (Tableau): Hands-on ability to build interactive visuals, self-service dashboards, and customized management reports.
