Job Role: Technical Business Analyst

The Technical Business Analyst will play a critical role in translating business requirements into clear and structured technical documentation that development teams can implement effectively.

The role involves analysing business processes, identifying system requirements, supporting solution design, and ensuring that delivered software solutions meet both user expectations and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Business Analyst will perform several important responsibilities, including:

Requirement Analysis and Documentation

  • Conduct detailed requirement analysis to understand business logic, system behaviours, and downstream impacts.

  • Translate business needs into clear functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Create structured documentation, including:

    • Process maps

    • Data flow diagrams

    • Acceptance criteria

    • User documentation

Product and Development Support

  • Work closely with Product Owners and Architects to refine backlog items and clarify requirements.

  • Collaborate with developers and QA teams to ensure expected behaviours, edge cases, and business rules are clearly understood.

  • Validate delivered features to confirm alignment with requirements and expected outcomes.

Incident and Problem Analysis

  • Work with the Incident Management Lead to analyse recurring system incidents.

  • Review system logs, incident narratives, and operational issues to identify requirement gaps.

  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) to distinguish between:

    • Requirement errors

    • Process gaps

    • Technical failures

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify recurring patterns in incidents, defects, and user feedback.

  • Convert insights into system improvements and feature enhancements.

  • Update functional documentation, workflows, and knowledge articles.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Conduct workshops, discovery sessions, and requirement walkthroughs.

  • Communicate insights and requirement summaries in a structured and accessible format.

  • Build strong relationships across business teams and technical departments.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates applying for the Technical Business Analyst role should meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, Engineering, or a related field

  • Experience working as:

    • Technical Business Analyst

    • Systems Analyst

    • Product Analyst

  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments

  • Hands-on experience writing:

    • User stories

    • Acceptance criteria

    • Functional documentation

  • Familiarity with modern SDLC practices

  • Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD environments

  • Experience using tools such as:

    • Azure DevOps

    • Jira

    • Other project tracking platforms

  • Exposure to IT Service Management (ITSM) processes including:

    • Incident management

    • Problem management

    • Change management

Preferred Certifications

Although not mandatory, the following certifications can be advantageous:

  • IIBA Business Analysis certification

  • Agile Business Analyst certification
