About the Role

Newsweek is hiring a Data Analyst to join its growing team in India. This role plays a critical part in supporting city ranking methodologies by collecting, processing, and analysing diverse datasets. You will ensure data quality, consistency, and transparency while providing the analytical foundation for globally recognised rankings and editorial outputs.

This is a remote, full-time opportunity to work closely with research, editorial, and project teams in a collaborative, international environment.

Key Responsibilities

📊 Data Collection & Analysis

  • Support the creation and maintenance of the rankings database

  • Design data structures and master data management approaches

  • Collect, load, transform, and analyse economic, environmental, and survey datasets

  • Filter and sort data to support ranking methodologies

🧮 Data Engineering & Processing

  • Write code to transform data within the rankings data architecture

  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and relevance across all geographies and sources

  • Identify and resolve data quality issues

📈 Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare datasets for editorial and reporting outputs, including tables and visualisations

  • Support desk research and expert panel analysis with quantitative insights

  • Document data processes and methodologies for transparency and reproducibility

🤝 Collaboration & Integration

  • Work closely with researchers and the R&R team to validate data

  • Support the Project Manager with data-driven updates and risk identification

  • Collaborate with editorial teams to ensure accurate and clear data presentation

Main Deliverables

  • Cleaned and analysed datasets ready for ranking

  • Ranking tables and supporting code

  • Technical documentation of data processes and methodologies

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to data quality

  • Good SQL skills (Postgres or similar databases)

  • Data science coding experience in Python or R

  • Ability to communicate data insights to non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets

  • Comfortable working remotely with cross-functional teams
