About the Role: ML/CV Research Scientist (Industrial AI)

Hitachi America, Ltd. is hiring an experienced Machine Learning/Computer Vision Research Scientistfor its flagship R&D facility in Santa Clara, CA. This highly collaborative, full-time engineering track is designed for autonomous researchers holding a PhD degree plus 2 years of advanced experience who excel at formulating mathematical hypotheses, publishing peer-reviewed breakthroughs, and architecting production-grade machine learning models.
As a Research Scientist, you will drive the development of state-of-the-art Generative AI and foundational Computer Vision models tailored for data-scarce enterprise networks. Your daily focus will transcend standard application development; you will design novel algorithms for few-shot learning, object tracking, and cross-modal identification within the industrial domain. Partnering directly with enterprise clients via co-innovation workshops, you will map raw physical data to robust mathematical formulations, build proof-of-concepts using PyTorch and TensorFlow, protect Hitachi’s global IP portfolio through patent filings, and publish original findings in world-class AI venues.
Key Responsibilities & Advanced Scientific Workflows

Algorithmic Research & Deep Learning Design: Research, prototype, and scale advanced deep learning and computer vision architectures for custom industrial operations (including identification, few-shot tracking, and image comparison).

Mathematical Formulation & Hypothesis Testing: Translate ambiguous corporate challenges into precise mathematical models, creating codebases to systematically test, refine, and validate experimental hypotheses.
