The Alexa Smart Home Decision Sciences team provides the core analytics, statistical modeling, and ML engine powering millions of connected smart devices across the globe. The team processes hundreds of millions of weekly interaction logs spanning diverse IoT device types, APIs, and smart home skills to improve ecosystem reliability, automate proactive device management, and guide product strategy.
Role Overview
In this role, you will own end-to-end AI/ML models, statistical frameworks, anomaly detection pipelines, and Generative AI/LLM applications to proactively identify, diagnose, and prevent customer-facing experience issues across the smart home ecosystem. You will design experiments, write production Python code, author Weekly/Monthly Business Reviews (WBRs/MBRs), and present data narratives to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities

End-to-End ML & Anomaly Detection: Design, train, and deploy machine learning and statistical models to detect customer interaction failures, anomaly spikes, and IoT ecosystem bottlenecks.

Experimentation & Causal Analysis: Design and run A/B testing frameworks, hypothesis testing, and causal inference models to evaluate product quality improvements and feature launches.

GenAI & LLM Integration: Leverage Generative AI and Large Language Models on AWS to automate analytical workflows, generate automated insights, and build next-gen smart home experiences.

Metric Validation & KPI Development: Establish scalable analytics systems, metric integrity validation routines, and impact evaluation frameworks for business leadership monitoring.

Executive Leadership Influence: Author and co-own WBR/MBR documents to articulate complex technical insights and influence product roadmaps with senior executives.

Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Partner with Applied Scientists, Software Development Engineers (SDEs), and Product Managers to prototype proof-of-concept solutions at scale.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Experience: 3+ years of professional Data Scientist experience.

Technical Stack: 3+ years of experience with SQL data querying and Python scripting (or R, SAS, Matlab).

ML & Modeling: 3+ years of practical experience applying machine learning algorithms, statistical techniques, and model hyperparameter tuning.

AI Systems: 1+ years of experience working with or evaluating AI/LLM systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a STEM field (Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics).

Hands-on experience evaluating and establishing benchmarking frameworks for GenAI model performance.

Proven track record of applying quantitative, causal analysis to large-scale, multi-team IoT or internet data systems.
