About the Role: Data Engineer – Senior II (Grade 07)

Are you an expert data architect looking to build high-velocity distributed systems for a Fortune 500 logistics leader? FedEx is hiring a Data Engineer – Senior II (Grade 07) to anchor our core data architecture operations in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

As a Senior II engineer, you will lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of critical enterprise data pipelines that process high-density global logistics data. You will move far beyond basic database management, architecting automated ETL workflows that span massive relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) ecosystems. By leveraging big data frameworks like Spark and Hadoop, you will scale distributed real-time processing engines to support predictive supply chain models. This senior track requires close collaboration with software engineering and data science teams to guarantee data accessibility, implement zero-trust access controls, and provide high-fidelity analytics to steer global transportation operations.

Key Responsibilities & Logistics Data Workflows

• Pipeline Architecture & Automation: Design, build, and deploy automated end-to-end data pipelines to ingest, transform, and store complex operational data streams efficiently.

• Big Data & Real-Time Streaming: Utilise distributed processing engines such as Apache Spark or Hadoop to manage massive, high-concurrency datasets and execute real-time streaming workflows.

• Database Administration & Optimisation: Oversee, tune, and optimise complex relational SQL structures and distributed NoSQL databases, executing rigorous database performance monitoring and query tuning.

• ETL Engineering & Schema Design: Architect complex ETL processes for disparate data integration, collaborating with data scientists to construct resilient data models and custom schemas for downstream BI analytics.

• Data Security & Governance: Enforce corporate data governance frameworks and data security standards by implementing advanced data access controls and robust encryption techniques.

• Systems Integration & Documentation: Partner closely with software engineers to integrate backend data layers seamlessly with front-end applications, maintaining clear architectural documentation for all pipelines and data flows.


Candidate Prerequisites & Technical Matrix

We are looking for a deeply analytical, meticulous engineering professional who can translate raw transactional events into pristine data products.

Basic Required Qualifications:

• Educational Track: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), or a deeply related quantitative technical discipline.

• Experience Threshold: Minimum 5 years of verified, relevant work experience in specialized Data Engineering.

• Accreditation Core: A recognised business accreditation for Business Intelligence (BI) tools or professional enterprise cloud environments.

• Technical Core: Proven fluency in writing high-efficiency SQL queries, administering NoSQL databases, and managing distributed architectures for big data processing (Hadoop/Spark).

• Professional Toolkit: Exceptional planning, analytical processing, organizational, and technical presentation skills, backed by absolute fluency in verbal and written English.
