NHRC Internship 2026: Role & Duration

The SIP is a full-time, in-person commitment. Interns are expected to participate in various activities that bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world human rights advocacy.

• Role: Summer Intern

• Stipend: ₹12,000 (awarded on successful completion)

• Duration: 4 Weeks (typically June–July)

• Mode: In-person (Manav Adhikar Bhawan, New Delhi)

• Travel Perk: Reimbursement of 3rd AC rail fare to and from New Delhi.

Core Activities

• Expert Lectures: Attend sessions led by NHRC Chairperson, Members, and domain experts.

• Field Visits: Experience virtual or physical tours of jails, police stations, and NGOs to observe human rights conditions.

• Research Projects: Work on assigned group projects and prepare theme-based presentations.

• Case Studies: Review actual human rights complaints and the legal processes followed for redressal.

Eligibility Criteria

The NHRC maintains high academic standards for its internship applicants. Ensure you meet these criteria before applying:

 

1. Eligible Courses: Law (3-year LLB or 5-year Integrated), LLM, and Post-Graduate degrees in Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology, Public Administration, Economics, or Anthropology.

2. Academic Requirements: Students must have at least 65% marks in Class 12 and all subsequent university semesters.

3. Current Status:

   • 3-year LLB: Must be in the 2nd or 3rd year.

   • 5-year Law: Must have completed 3 years and be in the 4th or 5th year.

   • PG Students: Must be currently enrolled in their regular degree course.

4. Age Limit: Maximum 28 years as of the application date.

5. Exclusions: Students who have previously attended any regular NHRC internship (Summer or Winter) are not eligible.

Selection Process

Selection is purely merit-based, evaluated out of 100 marks:

• Class XII Marks: 30% weightage.

• Graduation Marks: 40% weightage.

• Statement of Purpose (SOP): 30% weightage.

Note: You must submit a 300–500-word SOP on “Reason for Joining as an Intern in NHRC.” This document is critical to your selection.
