The Role: Mechanical Planning & Design Engineer

We are seeking a proactive Mechanical Planning Engineer with a specialized background in automotive design. In this role, you will bridge the gap between initial sales concepts and final production, ensuring that every project is engineered to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Project Kick-off & Alignment: Attend job kick-offs, receive engineering files from operations, and synthesise Engineering and Sales data to establish precise input parameters.

  • Design & Calculation: Finalise preliminary general drawings and load calculations. Review design inputs, relationship outputs, and long-lead material requirements with the Engineering Director.

  • Technical Documentation: Prepare comprehensive Bill of Quantities (BOQ), detailed drawings, and complex mechanical calculations.

  • Cross-Functional Optimisation: Liaise with production and design teams to identify optimum solutions for technical bottlenecks in design or manufacturing.

  • Quality & Material Control: Pre-approve material orders and assist Quality Inspectors in physical material checking when required.

  • Project Lifecycle Management: Attend Level 2 and 3 inspection/testing, incorporate “As-Built” drawings into the CAD system, and provide technical assistance to Sales and Operations departments.


Desired Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a SolidWorks expert with a deep understanding of automotive structures and a meticulous approach to planning.

Education & Experience

  • Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience: Minimum 4 years specifically in automotive design.

  • Environment: Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure engineering settings.

Technical Proficiencies

  • CAD Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modelling, 2D drafting, and assembly).

  • Automotive Systems: Solid grasp of chassis, powertrain, and body structures.

  • Engineering Standards: Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)principles.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse complex design issues and propose lean, effective solutions.
