The Data Analyst will play a vital role in collecting, processing, validating, and analyzing diverse datasets to support Newsweek’s global ranking projects. The position demands strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a passion for transforming raw data into meaningful insights that shape high-visibility editorial output.
You will work across economic, environmental, demographic, and survey-based datasets while ensuring the highest level of data quality, consistency, and traceability. Your work will directly contribute to the analytical foundation behind Newsweek’s global city rankings and related editorial reporting.
🛠 Key Responsibilities
As a Data Analyst at Newsweek, you will:
✔ Support the development of the rankings database, including data structure design and master-data management strategies
✔ Collect, clean, load, transform, and analyze diverse datasets related to cities across geographies
✔ Filter, segment, and organize datasets to enable consistent ranking calculations and analytical comparisons
✔ Write efficient Python or R code to transform datasets within the rankings architecture
✔ Conduct desk research and assist expert panel reviews using data-driven evidence and quant insights
✔ Ensure data quality, reliability, and comparability across geographical boundaries and external sources
✔ Prepare polished visual outputs — dataset tables, visualizations, ranking matrices, and analytical summaries
✔ Maintain clear documentation for all data processes and methodologies, ensuring reproducibility and transparency

This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders:
🔸 Collaboration with the Researcher and wider Rankings & Research Team to align qualitative and quantitative findings
🔸 Support the Project Manager by providing data-driven updates, risks, and milestone insights
🔸 Close partnership with editorial teams, ensuring accurate interpretation and display of data in published content
