Broadcom Careers: Physical Design (PD) Engineer

Broadcom provides the semiconductors and infrastructure software that power the world’s most complex, mission-critical needs. We combine long-term R&D investment with superb execution to deliver the best technology at scale. From networking connectivity to server storage systems, our breakthroughs shape the global market.

We are seeking a high-performing Physical Design (PD) Engineer to join our silicon engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for transforming complex architectural designs into high-performance silicon, ensuring that Broadcom continues to set the standard for networking and infrastructure hardware.

About the Role: Engineering Silicon Excellence

As a PD Engineer at Broadcom, you will manage the full physical implementation cycle of next-generation chips. You will work at the cutting edge of process nodes, balancing power, performance, and area (PPA) to deliver industry-leading products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Netlist-to-GDSII Flow: Lead the physical design implementation, including floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis (CTS), and routing.

  • Timing Closure: Perform rigorous Static Timing Analysis (STA) and achieve timing closure for high-frequency designs.

  • Physical Verification: Ensure 100% accuracy in DRC, LVS, and antenna checks to guarantee successful tape-outs.

  • Power & Signal Integrity: Analyse and optimise IR drop, electromigration (EM), and crosstalk to ensure long-term silicon reliability.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with RTL designers and DFT (Design for Test) teams to resolve complex implementation trade-offs.

  • Methodology Innovation: Contribute to the development and enhancement of automated design flows and scripts.

Qualifications & Technical Mastery

The ideal candidate is a proactive engineer who thrives on solving the complex puzzles of modern silicon manufacturing.

  • Core Technical Skills: Proven expertise in Physical Design flows and EDA tools (Innovus, ICC2, or equivalent).

  • Timing & Analysis: Deep understanding of STA, extraction, and physical verification.

  • Scripting: Proficiency in Tcl, Perl, or Python for design flow automation.

  • Node Experience: Hands-on experience with advanced process nodes (7nm, 5nm, 3nm).

  • Problem Solving: Exceptional ability to troubleshoot complex routing congestion and timing bottlenecks.

Why Join Broadcom?

Broadcom is a place where engineering brilliance meets global scale.

  • Market Leadership: Work on the semiconductors that power the backbone of the internet and global data centres.

  • Mission-Critical Tech: Our infrastructure software and hardware solve the world’s most complex connectivity challenges.

  • Inclusive Culture: Broadcom is a proud Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diversity and foster an environment where innovation is fueled by unique perspectives.

  • R&D Investment: Benefit from working in an environment that prioritises long-term research and superb execution.
