Technical Architecture & Core Focus

The role blends modern enterprise Java microservice engineering with quantitative valuation platforms to support trading portfolios, risk management, and regulatory compliance:

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure & Pipeline Development: Spearhead deployment pipeline evolution, build robust CI/CD automation, and manage secure, scalable microservice infrastructure.

  • Valuation Methodology Systems: Implement, maintain, and optimize software models for accurate valuation of financial instruments across trading portfolios.

  • Market Data Processing: Build high-performance REST APIs to ingest, process, and analyze market data inputs, assumptions, and risk parameters.

  • Reporting & Compliance Automation: Support automated generation of valuation reports, risk metrics, financial statements, and regulatory filings.

  • Stakeholder Technical Support: Provide direct analytical and system insights to traders, quantitative analysts, and risk management teams.

Technical & Skill Requirements

Essential / Baseline Qualifications

  • Java Ecosystem: Hands-on expertise in JDK 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x.x.

  • Architecture: In-depth experience designing and deploying Microservices and RESTful APIs.

  • Agile Framework: Working knowledge of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) methodologies.

Desirable & Advanced Stack

Area Tools & Competencies
Advanced Java Hands-on experience with JDK 21+ (virtual threads, pattern matching).
Application Servers Enterprise deployment on WildFly / JBoss EAP 8.
Domain Expertise Practical background in Banking, Payment Processing, or Financial Instrument Valuation.
AI Developer Tooling Familiarity with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) for developer productivity.

Analyst Level Scope & Expectations

As an Analyst Level hire, candidates are evaluated on operational excellence, technical depth, and risk governance:

1. Delivery & Technical Leadership

  • Individual Contributor Track: Serve as a subject matter expert in core microservice architectures, guiding technical solutions based on established precedents and system patterns.

  • People & Team Leadership Track (if applicable): Allocate team tasks, coordinate engineering resources, and mentor junior developers in line with Barclays’ LEAD behaviours (Listen, Energise, Align, Develop).

2. Risk, Governance, & Mindset

  • Risk & Controls: Manage deployment risk, strengthen system controls, and escalate policy breaches appropriately.
