🌟 About the Team:
The Web Experiences and Services Team (WEST) is part of Microsoft’s Office Online Product Group, responsible for building AI Ops solutions that support Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and shared services.
Our mission is to leverage AI and ML to enhance live site management, automate incident resolution, and proactively prevent issues across Office Online applications.
We focus on anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and error log analysis to drive reliability and efficiency at scale.
🚀 Role Overview:
We’re seeking an Applied Scientist II who is passionate about AI-driven incident management and reliability engineering. You’ll collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and product teams to develop intelligent systems that detect, analyze, and prevent incidents in real time.
Your work will directly influence how Office Online delivers reliable and scalable services globally.
⚙️ Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with engineering and product teams to develop AI-powered solutions for live site management.

Build scalable AI/ML models for incident management, root cause analysis, and prevention.

Design and implement algorithms for anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and error log interpretation.

Integrate ML solutions end-to-end — from data collection to deployment and monitoring.

Prototype emerging approaches in RAG, SLM, and Agentic workflows for site reliability.

Champion data security, observability, and performance best practices.

Automate incident response and optimize AI pipelines for continuous improvement.
🎓 Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field + 3 years of experience
OR Master’s + 3 years OR PhD OR equivalent experience. -
Proficiency in Python or similar languages with strong coding and debugging skills.

Solid understanding of ML/AI algorithms and data science techniques.

Hands-on experience with deep learning, predictive modelling, or time-series analysis.

Strong communication skills and ability to translate AI concepts for product teams.
✅ Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in AI-driven operations and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

Expertise in AI Ops, anomaly detection, and incident management.

Familiarity with Agentic workflows and production ML systems.

Passion for learning new technologies and delivering end-user quality.
