💡 About the Role

As an SDE at Amazon Kindle, you will design, develop, integrate, test, and support C++-based software for Kindle E-Readers and mobile applications. Your work will directly improve the reading experience across a wide range of devices, formats, and genres.

This role requires deep technical expertise, innovation, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment with product owners, designers, and engineering peers.


🧩 Key Responsibilities

Software Architecture & Development

  • Design and develop high-performance features for Kindle E-Reader and Mobile Apps

  • Build reusable components, utilities, and subsystems

  • Enhance compatibility across software modules

Technical Leadership

  • Prepare requirement specs and design documents

  • Enforce best engineering practices and high-quality coding standards

  • Contribute to scalable, secure, and reliable system architecture

Graphics & UI Rendering

  • Understand graphics subsystems and internals

  • Work on adaptive UI/UX for upcoming Kindle devices

Deployment & Operational Excellence

  • Review and ship C++, React Native, or Java code

  • Monitor CI/CD pipelines, dashboards, and stability metrics

  • Root-cause production issues and propose long-term fixes

Collaboration

  • Work with UX designers, product owners, and partner engineering teams

  • Train new team members on Kindle software architecture

As an Amazon Kindle SDE, you’ll:

  • Write and review code (C++, Java, React Native)

  • Contribute to new device and app innovations

  • Ensure operational excellence through monitoring and automation

  • Participate in design discussions and architecture reviews


🧠 Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of system design/architecture experience

  • Strong coding skills in at least one programming language

  • Experience building and scaling production systems


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience across the full software development lifecycle

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • Deep understanding of coding standards, source control, testing, and operations
