Core Research Scope & Responsibilities

Amazon Applied Science Interns leverage science techniques and implement systems to work on massive datasets, applying theoretical models to real-world production environments:

[Formulate Problem via Working Backwards] ➔ [Design & Experimentation] ➔ [Build & Scale System Prototypes] ➔ [Deploy into Production]
  • End-to-End System Ownership: Design and build production-grade AI/ML models and automated systems to solve complex business problems.

  • Technical Roadmaps & Invention: Create technical roadmaps and invent scalable scientific solutions leveraging massive enterprise datasets.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Amazon Senior Scientists, engineers, and fellow science interns to deploy solutions directly to production.

  • Customer-Centric Innovation: Apply Amazon’s “Working Backwards” mechanism to bring research breakthroughs directly into customer-facing products.

Candidate Eligibility & Skills Matrix

Basic Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Enrollment: Currently enrolled in a PhD degree program physically located at an academic institution in Canada in a relevant quantitative field.

  • Work Commitment: Available for a 40 hour/week full-time commitment for up to 12 weeks.

  • Location Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older and able to relocate to the assigned team location (Vancouver, Burnaby, Pitt Meadows, or Toronto).

Compensation & Benefits Package

  • Base Salary: $149,300.00 – $249,300.00 CAD annually (calculated pro-rata for the 12-week internship term).

  • Relocation Assistance: Provided for interns residing 50 miles or further from their assigned Amazon office location.
