Job Role: Associate Director – Rail (Deputy Head)

The Associate Director – Rail (Deputy Head) will lead and support the development of track and alignment designs for rail and transit infrastructure projects. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and project coordination capabilities to ensure successful project delivery.

The candidate will work closely with engineers, planners, project managers, and technical specialists to create efficient and safe rail transportation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop Track Design Solutions

  • Prepare detailed railway track design plans for rail and transit projects.
  • Design alignments considering track geometry, curvature, gradients, and elevation requirements.
  • Optimize track layouts to improve operational efficiency and safety.
  • Ensure engineering solutions meet project specifications and performance objectives.

Conduct Alignment Studies

  • Perform route assessments and alignment studies for railway and transit systems.
  • Analyse topographical, geographical, and environmental constraints.
  • Evaluate alternative alignment options to determine the most suitable routes.
  • Support feasibility studies and technical investigations.

Utilize Advanced Engineering Software

  • Use OpenRail, Bentley applications, AutoCAD, and other railway engineering tools.
  • Develop engineering models and technical analyses for rail projects.
  • Generate accurate design outputs and engineering documentation.
  • Support digital engineering and infrastructure design initiatives.

Ensure Compliance and Safety

  • Verify that all designs comply with railway engineering standards and regulations.
  • Apply industry best practices throughout the design process.
  • Contribute to safety reviews and risk assessments.
  • Stay updated with evolving rail infrastructure standards and technological advancements.

Prepare Technical Documentation

  • Produce comprehensive engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Coordinate with drafting teams to ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Review technical submissions and maintain quality standards.
  • Support project approvals and stakeholder presentations.

Collaborate Across Project Teams

  • Work with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
  • Coordinate with project managers to align technical deliverables with project goals.
  • Assist during construction phases by providing technical support.
  • Resolve design challenges and ensure successful project execution.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Around five years or more of relevant railway engineering experience.
  • Proven expertise in track and alignment design for rail or transit projects.
  • Strong understanding of rail engineering standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
